Mothers’ Union Wareham, 1926-2016
The Wareham Branch celebrated their 90th Anniversary on 13 July 2016. Report by Rosie Stiven.
One of the many pleasures of being a Diocesan President of Mothers’ Union is that I am invited to so many delightful celebrations throughout the year. The 90th Anniversary of the Wareham Branch of Mothers’ Union was no exception to this.
The celebrations began with a moving Service of Thanksgiving, lovingly prepared by Canon Garry Guinness, in the beautiful and ancient Church of Lady St Mary.
After the Service, with the sounds of some beautiful hymns including 'Tell Out My Soul' and 'To God Be The Glory' still ringing in our ears, we moved across to the Parish Hall where the celebrations continued.
The hall had been magnificently decorated with colourful tablecloths, flowers and balloons, creating a real Birthday Party atmosphere. Jeannette Guinness and her team had prepared some interesting and thoughtful displays of Wareham Branch’s history together with its current activities. Centre stage was, of course, the splendid Birthday Cake!
This was such a happy gathering with several past members returning from as far afield as the Wirral, to join in the celebrations with members and friends from Bere Regis and Swanage. Speeches were made, thanks given and that magnificent cake was cut! I am sure we have all taken away many wonderful memories of a splendid day spent in fellowship with each other and blessed by our loving God.
Congratulations, Wareham Branch, on your 90th Anniversary. May you enjoy many more years of devoted and loving service.
