News, Reflections and Colours
The latest news from Bradford on Avon and Sherborne, courtesy Diocesan President Rosie Stiven.
This month I was delighted to visit members in Bradford on Avon and Sherborne.
Following a delicious lunch hosted by the Archdeaconry Chairman of Wiltshire, Marlene Haffenden, I joined Jill Wright, Branch Leader for Holy Trinity, and members from both Holy Trinity and Christchurch, for an afternoon of news and reflections. It was a delight to be able to both enrol and welcome new members to the Mothers’ Union at Holy Trinity and what a lovely, warm welcome we were all given.
You may also be unaware that Holy Trinity Church has recently been completely refurbished and has reopened for worship. What has been achieved in the refurbishment is nothing short of amazing. There is a real WOW factor as you walk into this beautiful, ancient building which is just full of the most spiritual space. Original stained glass and soft stone combine with warm oak furnishings and spacious glass to create a building that truly inspires. Thank you so much for inviting me!
On now to Sherborne, to be with Branch Leader Josephine Higgs, and members and friends for their meeting. Our gathering was joined by Daphne Furey, the Archdeaconry Chairman of Sherborne.
We had a lively meeting which combined an update on Mothers’ Union activities in the Diocese with a wonderful presentation by Sister Annemarie about a Retreat she had led for Mothers’ Union members in Scotland at the Retreat and Pastoral centre at Saint Mary’s, Kinnoull in Perth. Sister Annemarie demonstrated to us how to pray a Celtic Christian Circle Prayer and also described what the colours and designs of the Mothers’ Union tartan, worn by our members in Scotland, symbolise.
I understand that, stemming from that very enjoyable meeting, Sherborne has two new members. Many thanks to you all for a really good meeting.
Please don’t forget to join in our Global Moment of Prayer led by our World Wide President, Lynne Tembey on 31 May at 2pm from Hull, which will be streamed on our Central Mothers’ Union website, as Mothers’ Union joins in ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ prayers from 25 May to 4 June.
