Harnham Mothers’ Union, 1895-2016: A Celebration
If you happened to be passing by the Harnham Church Hall during the afternoon of 23 June, you would have been treated to the joyful singing of some very familiar songs...
...such as 'We’ll meet again' and 'He’s got the whole world in his hands', and you may have wondered what was going on. Well, the Harnham Branch of the Mothers’ Union was celebrating in prayer and song their 121 years of faithful service.
Katharine Callard and her team had put together a beautiful display of photos, enrolment certificates, and details of Branch activities over the years, which reminded us of members’ service to the community since 1895.
In addition, members and guests enjoyed a superb afternoon tea with delicious sandwiches, scones, strawberries and, of course, the celebration cake - expertly cut by Jane Pelly.
It was a great privilege to be part of these celebrations and it was so heartening to see the Harnham members, as well as members from other Branches and friends from the local community all joining together in the festivities.
2016 is the 140th Anniversary of Mothers’ Union and it is wonderful to see Branches coming forward with their own individual celebrations. Harnham’s 121 years of dedicated loving and prayerful service to the community is a great accolade. Congratulations to Katharine and to all members of Harnham Mothers’ Union for a wonderful celebration of past, present and continuing service.
