Our Commitment to Safeguarding

Protecting the vulnerable is at the very heart of the Christian faith. As a diocese we are committed to creating a culture which has safeguarding at its heart. This work in our churches and at the centre of the diocese is an expression of God’s compassion and kindness and of our commitment to the gospel. We want to ensure our worshipping communities are safe places for children and adults who may be vulnerable to abuse and neglect from being exploited or harmed. Safeguarding in the church community is everyone’s responsibility and a vital part of our care for one another for which we all need to be alert and responsive.
Bishop Karen
Bishop of Sherborne and Acting Bishop of Salisbury
Within Salisbury Diocese we follow the national legal and procedural framework for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and Church of England policy and practice. We act promptly on any complaints made and work in close partnership with Police and Social Care where children or vulnerable adults have been harmed or are at risk of harm or mistreatment. |
We care for those who have been abused in the past and provide a range of support and signposting for survivors and victims of church related abuse.
Within the safeguarding section of this website there is information on safeguarding support within your parish, national and diocesan policies, safer recruitment and training.
