Big Response for Big Thank You
Thousands of parishioners and well-wishers signed the Diocese of Salisbury's recent Big Thank You Card to HM the Queen.
There were 878 online entries via the diocesan website, www.salisbury.anglican.org, representing well over 1000 people. This total, however, was eclipsed by 900 handwritten entries courtesy of visitors to Wimborne Minster’s Jubilee Flower Festival, representing an estimated 1500 people.
There were 147 entries for the schools competition to design the front cover. The winner was Amelia French, a Year 7 pupil from South Wilts Grammar School. Designs from a further 14 runners-up are printed on the back cover.
The Bishop of Salisbury, Nicholas Holtam, said, “This is a marvelous tribute to Her Majesty the Queen. She is an example to us of dedication and service. The enormous response to this Big Thank You to her is a mark of genuine affection in her Jubilee year.”
The Director of Education, Chris Shepperd, said, “Whittling down 147 entries to a shortlist of 15 was as difficult as we thought it would be. There are some very talented artists in our diocese! Congratulations to Amelia and to South Wilts Grammar for not only the winning entry, but other entries that also made the shortlist.”
