The 'Signs and Wanders' in the Garden at St Marks
Congregation members at St Marks Church in Salisbury have been finding ways to uplift the local community through the church garden.

Community has never been more important, and the Salisbury community continues to show its resilience and dedication to others during this strange time. Following the closure of the building during the first pandemic, the people at St Marks Church in Salisbury have been finding creative ways of sharing their garden space with others in the local community. These have included putting small wooden “signs” and gates in the garden with pictures and verses of encouragement that both children and adults can find as they wander around.
A ribbon tree, prayer cairn and prayer gate have also been created for people to write names and prayer requests on and there has been music in the garden.
Some members of the congregation have made small photo cards and painted “Spiritual Stones” with Bible verses on for people to read and take away.
More recently, a “Thinking of You Tree” has been created with heart shaped baubles that can be tied on the tree in memory of people who they can no longer be with or visit. All of these features have helped to create a welcoming and open green space for the people of Salisbury to visit, and take a moment to reflect. Visitors to the garden are very welcome.
