Vision and Values
Westbury Leigh CE Primary has been reviewing the school's vision for children to be inspired, aspire to their dreams, and for everyone to work hard to help them achieve these.
The school community has been reflecting on the school logo of a swan, and how this exemplifies the vision of the school. Everyone has talked about how the school's core values inspire children to aim high, and take flight and soar when they achieve well.
Headteacher Debbie Grimsey says:
"We believe that children are the voice of the future and that, by building their sense of self and character and enabling them learn about their community and the wider world, we are helping them to ask questions about this and consider the role they play in shaping it further.
"Some of the children have been working with our artist in residence, Mrs Lise McDermot in creating a special picture that shows how the swan inspires us and carries us on our learning journey. They used acrylic paint, artists' materials and gold leaf to create our school picture.
“We believe that the future of our world is in the hands of our children, and their voice and place within this should be nurtured, heard and respected. Our core values are Respect, Responsibility and Courage; these are aligned to support our vision that every child will be inspired not to have more but to be more through aspiration and a focus on achievement.”
The school has a specific theological underpinning to the vision, using this Bible verse:
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech,
in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
