"There really is a donkey!"

by Michael Ford last modified 02 Apr, 2019 04:15 PM

Imagine you're a Primary School child. You're playing Jesus and you're told to go and find a donkey outside. And lo and behold...!

Children at St James’ First School, Wimborne, were in for a treat this week when they were visited by donkeys Jojo and Sasha.

Being in the heart of rural Wimborne, the school regularly welcomes animals but this week there was a special message to share.

The children at St James’ learned about Palm Sunday before Reverend Suzie sent ‘Jesus’ and two of his friends to the playground to find a donkey, upon which Jesus could ride into Jerusalem.

To their amazement, there was not one but two donkeys waiting for them on the field.

Jacqui Booth, head teacher at the Ofsted outstanding school, explained, “It was a brilliant moment of awe and wonder as the children’s faces lit up in surprise and ‘Jesus’ (played by Jake) exclaimed, “There really is a donkey!”

“The rest of the school lined the playground, cheering and waving, whilst the group of children and donkeys re-enacted the journey into Jerusalem.”

The school would like to pass on its sincere thanks to Ian and Pauline Potentier who kindly gave their time (and beautifully behaved donkeys) to help bring this story to life and make it memorable for the children.
