Recycling by Design

by Michael Ford last modified 30 May, 2019 05:14 PM

DSAT St Peter's School, north-west of Salisbury has collaborated with Wiltshire Scrapstore to produce three stylish designs using recycled and reusable materials.

The project used materials from local suppliers and the wider community, and was designed to encourage the children with an environmental ethos of reusing and recycling. The results are displayed prominently in the school.

Wiltshire Scrapstore's Jane Wheeler says, "We worked at St Peter's School in Wilton, with the first pupils attending the new school, to create large murals to decorate the school and welcome new students coming in.

"We used a variety of scrap resources with each class creating six large panels to make one large picture. One of St Peter in his boat, one of the school logo and motto and one of a black Marlin, which was designed by one of the pupils."

Workshop leader Kate Jackson said, "We had a wonderful day working with the new children who were so excited. The children were fully engaged and maintained their enthusiasm and interest throughout to create the most stunning murals which will be a lasting legacy for the school.

"It was so nice to receive such a warm welcome with every member of staff and all the children working together, being creative in a supportive and friendly environment."

The Wiltshire Scrapstore regularly works with schools and community groups to get creative using recycled materials.

Jane adds, "We will be attending many Salisbury events over the summer so keep a look out for us at the Armed Forces Day, The Archaeology Festival and many more!"
