Poems, Snowdrops and Bluebells
Inspired by Robert Macfarlane's Lost Words, pupils at Longford Primary School have been using poetry to help spread some joy
Children at Longford Primary School have been hugely inspired by Robert Macfarlane's Lost Words over the past year. Back in November, they sent in some Remembrance Poetry and Pictures, which were very warmly received.
Inspired by this, and to spread a little cheer and happiness, they sent out some Star Poetry to Nunton Church and to the residents of Willowcroft Nursing Home. Reverend Anna-Claar Thomasson has displayed their poetry with candles and has also extracts in her services. The residents of Willowcroft were delighted with the poetry and pictures, revisiting them and reading them out loud; it is clear that the children’s poetry has brought some joy during what has been a difficult time for all.
Now there is the promise of Spring and people still need hope and a little more poetry! So, the school is now sending out some Snowdrop and Bluebell poems and pictures, written by children learning at school and at home. The children have put their hearts into this and are so pleased at the chance to help others - even those reluctant writers have been getting involved!
