New reflection and sensory area in Okeford Fitzpaine
Okeford Fitzpaine Primary School has been successful with another grant application, this time through Allchurches Trust.
Head of School Lizzie Peters says:
"We were very lucky to receive £500 towards resources which the children can use in a designated area should they need time to reflect.
"The space will be a great addition to the school, allowing our children somewhere within the classroom to calm down and return to learning or take time out to reflect upon our Christian values. This reflection area will also be used during non-learning times to get away and reflect on what’s happening around them."
"The school's biblical underpinning is taken from John 10:10; "I came so that you may have life and life in all its fullness." We want all of our children to have life in all its fullness, and recognise that there are some who do find parts of the school day a real challenge.
"In order for our children to flourish, aspire and believe (which are our Christian values), we have set up our new quiet space so that individuals are able to take time out to process their thoughts and feelings before re-joining their class and the learning in a better place and with a more positive mind-set.
Ms Peters adds:
"The area has nice comfortable pillows and a rug which they can sit on, mood lightning, music, books and cards to help them focus on their reflection time. The children used the space for the first time this week, taking advantage of the comfortable fluffy cushions and watching the sensory light tubes.
"It's a good start to the year!"
