Heads in 'First of a Kind' Commissioning
School Leaders new to role in the last 18 months were commissioned into the Diocese in a ‘first of its kind’ service at the Diocesan Education Centre.
The commissioning service, led by Karen, Bishop of Sherborne was written especially for this event as the Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE) designed an occasion to bring new leaders together to thank them and welcome them to the SDBE family in their new role as spiritual leaders of their schools and academies.
Nicola Coupe, SDBE School Adviser who meets all new school leaders in the first few weeks of their role said:
“We hope that everyone attending enjoyed the sense of occasion and that our new headteachers and principals feel appreciated, welcomed, supported and celebrated. School leadership is a vital role, which builds the wider Church school community in our Diocese.
“I hope the gift they were given (a notebook, with spiritual quotes) will remind them that they have been ‘Called’ into their role and will provide inspiration as they lead their schools and academies.”
The SDBE encourages all schools to arrange their own commissioning service soon after a new headteacher is in post, so that they can be welcomed into the local community. These are usually deeply personal services that are very much appreciated by staff, children and families.
