Award-Winning Dilton Marsh
Dilton Marsh CE Primary School is celebrating after winning the 2014 Environmental Youth Awards at The Bath and West Show.
The competition encompassed the four counties of Somerset, Bristol, Dorset and Wiltshire. The school were nominated for the award and, according to the rules, will never know who put them forward.
Dilton Marsh had been judged the county winners for Wiltshire prior to the show, but the overall winner was revealed only on the day, when the Duchess of Cornwall opened the sealed envelope.
Along with a bronze trophy of a bird of prey and a plaque depicting a rural scene, Dilton were presented with £500 to spend on environmental development at the school.
The school were delighted to have won and especially pleased with what the judges had to say about their school: “The school has developed a Whole School Environmental Awareness ethos that ensures sustainability, recycling and care for the environment is central to daily school life for every child.”
Initiatives have been largely driven by the children themselves, and include extensive recycling, planting of flowers, trees and vegetables, locally-sourced food and visits to and from various organisations with eco credentials. The school holds Eco-Schools Bronze and Silver Awards.
