New Headteachers and Those Aspiring to Headship

Where should I begin? How do I prioritise? What is distinctive about a Church school? How does effectiveness link to distinctiveness? Who do I ask for help? What support is available to me?

We are delighted that you have joined our family of Church schools.  This will be one of the most exciting and challenging times of your career.  Our role is to walk alongside you, helping you plan the excitements and respond to the challenges. We would like to build a relationship with you that enables this work, so that you complete your first two years in headship with confidence, having moved your school towards your vision of Church school effectiveness and distinctiveness.

The relationship begins when you choose to engage in our work with those aspiring to headship and is followed by the Diocesan advisory role in the appointment of new head teachers in schools. Following your appointment, an advisor will usually visit you before you take up post and plan with you, via the use of the PSA, your support program for the first two years of headship.
