Voluntary Land Registration
Voluntary Land Registration was encouraged by the Land Registry following the introduction of the Land Registration Act 2002.
The advantage of land registration is that a registered title is a guaranteed title and so registering church property protects church land from appropriation by adjoining landowners or other claimants.
Between the years 2007- 2011, the Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF) organised a project with PCCs to register all church land in each parish (excluding Church Schools) with the Land Registry. This project has now been completed and almost all church land has been registered with the Land Registry. The Trust Officer is happy to answer any queries or advise PCCs if necessary.
The Diocesan Board of Education and the Local Education Authorities have coordinated the registration of church schools as a separate exercise.
