Zoom Training Anyone?

Each year the team offers training for those incumbents who are receiving a new assistant curate after the Diocesan ordinations.

This year was no different, and while the ordinations have been postponed until September, it is still the case that this year our 14 new curates will be arriving in their training parishes fresh from their ordination training in the summer.

Most curates will serve 3 years in this post, the first being a year as a deacon before they are ordained as priests. During this time they will be mentored and trained ready to take on a parish or chaplaincy role.

Training Incumbents have a vital role to play in preparing our curates for their calling to priesthood.

Sue Chandler, IME* & CMD** Resource Officer in our Ministry Team explains:

"The IME Team ran a Zoom training morning for all those who will be receiving a curate this summer, talking through all aspects of their role as well as recognising the difficulties caused by the current lockdown, including the postponement of the ordinations.

"We were also joined by the Reflective Group Leaders who lead monthly meetings with a small subset of the curates, enabling them to talk through anything they like – these are similar to the Reflective Practice Groups offered to licensed clergy but are facilitated by an experienced priest rather than by an external facilitator.

"We all agreed we are really looking forward to the arrival of our new curates."
