Welcome to the Wonderzone

by Michael Ford last modified 17 Sep, 2021 10:17 PM

In our weekly Grapevine news, we asked parishes what they had been up to over the summer, and have had some response.

Last week, we looked at an all-age activity café, Soul Space.

This week, we turn to a children's holiday club in Corfe Mullen.

Rector Jane Burgess says:

"42 children were welcomed into the ‘Wonderzone’ holiday club in Corfe Mullen in the first week of the holidays. It was difficult to tell who enjoyed the week the most, the children or the leaders!

"Each day began energetically with our wake up and stretch exercises before we learnt about God’s wonderful world with experiments, games, crafts and songs and with help from ‘Flash’ our voice-activated robot.

"Our curate Matt became a professor for the week and before it even began he had built an amazing 5m tall rocket which was at the centre of the ‘Wonderzone’.

"On the final day and to the children’s amazement, the rocket ‘launched’, rising into the air and finishing what was truly a blast of a week.

"(Ropes were carefully hidden, but to the children, it LAUNCHED.)

"Definitely a 'wow' moment!

"The week proved to be a great initiation for our new Children and Families Leader Evie, and we were so pleased to have her as part of our team.

"We were also really encouraged that many families returned on the Sunday for our celebration Family Service where we were able to share activities from the holiday club with the whole family.

"If any parish in the diocese would like to use ‘Flash’ the robot, he is happy to move home, so just let us know!"
