Visitor From Sudan
The Right Revd Moses Deng, Bishop of Wau Diocese in Sudan, is spending almost two weeks in the Diocese of Salisbury, based in the Poole area.
The Poole Deanery (group of parishes) is linked with Wau Diocese, and the visit marks a new stage of this relationship.
Bishop Deng will tour St Edward’s combined CE RC school on Tuesday morning (17 May), before spending time with children’s and community workers at Christ Church, Creekmoor and attending Messy Church at St Dunstan’s Upton.
On Wednesday (18 May), he will visit the Old Stables Café to hear of the work of Poole Missional Communities, and preach at Bournemouth University’s Christian Union.
Other highlights of the trip include visits to St Aldhelm’s Academy and Lilliput CE First School; discussions with Poole and Police chaplains; an evening at Routes to Roots, a shelter for the homeless in Poole; and preaching at three services on Sunday 22 May (11am at St James Church, 3pm at Holy Angels and 7pm at the Farside).
The Revd Carol Langford, one of the group organising the visit, said today, “We’ve ensured that Bishop Moses sees as much of the area as possible, so it will be an action-packed time for him. We’re very excited that he’s here with us, and it’s such a great opportunity to develop relationships and learn from each other.”
