Virtual Blue Light Carol Service

by Michael Ford last modified 11 Dec, 2020 09:42 PM

Our Emergency Services work round the clock to keep us safe and healthy, and many have strong links with parishes, not least in referrals or chaplaincy work.

In Bridport, Divisional Police Chaplain Phil Ringer and Inspector Darren Stanton have collaborated with Churchwarden Gary Hepburn of Wyke Regis to produce what is, for them, a groundbreaking service.

Phil and Darren explain:

"On Thursday 17th December at 7.30pm, we are holding a 'Virtual' Blue Light Carol Service with a difference! Ordinarily at this this time of year we would be preparing to hold this event in St Mary’s Church, Bridport to celebrate the work of the Emergency Services and voluntary sector but we took the early decision to hold the service online this year to remain Covid-secure.

"This has enabled us to share this wonderful celebration of their work with a far wider audience and all those who support the work of the emergency services and voluntary services are welcome to join us. Many of the services whose work we will be celebrating will be on call on Christmas Day and throughout the festive period.

"We sincerely hope that this online service gets you all into the spirit of Christmas and we ask for your help in spreading the word far and wide within your organisations, contacts, family and friends to help us reach as wide an audience as possible.

"Gary Hepburn of Wyke Regis Church has kindly given up his own time to compile the service and this will be released as a YouTube video at 7.30pm on Thursday 17th December 2020 via this link.

"We are once again privileged this year to receive the support and encouragement of HM Lord-Lieutenant Mr Angus Campbell who will welcome you at the start of the service.

"As in previous years, we are supporting the ongoing work of the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and there is an online collection for them.
Should anyone wish to donate at any time between now and the end of December 2020 please use this link.

"We would like to pass on our thanks to all the services and individuals who contributed to this special service, without their collective efforts this would not have been possible."
