Urban Saints goes online
Urban Saints, the UK-wide missional community dedicated to making young disciples for Jesus, has adapted to the present pandemic by taking its weekly groups and other mission activities online.
The organisation was always busy using volunteer leaders to provide young people and children with a wide-ranging Christian programme of activities as well as holiday camps, but now along with new social media for young people, they have created new online groups and new opportunities to pray for mission.
There are new weekly competitions and new deals for churches and parents on the Energize website, with new resources for young people, group leaders, parents and carers.
Passionate about seeing Christianity back at the heart of British society, Urban Saints was formed 120 years ago when, in 1900, Albert Kestin walked through a North London park on a Sunday afternoon and saw a group of boys playing instead of being in church.
He asked them, “Why are you not in church lads?” “It’s boring Sir!” they said. So, Albert asked the lads, “Would you come to an exciting Christian group if I set it up for you?” The lads agreed and, in that moment, the Urban Saints movement of volunteers leading young people’s Christian groups was born.
