'There's No Stopping Us'

Each tandem jump, from an altitude of 10,000 feet, lasted around five minutes with participants free-failing for 30 seconds before their parachute opened.

Andrew Lord, Chief Executive of Alabaré, who joined the 99 other skydivers said:
“The last person to jump, jumped at 3pm yesterday. He was very nervous, especially as he had waited a long time, but the smile on his face afterwards was brilliant.”

The event, which marked the Armistice Anniversary, took place at the Old Sarum Airfield and many of the jumpers were doing it in memory of a relative as well as to raise the ambitious target of £10,000.

Andrew, who was jumping in memory of his great-great uncle, Jack Sealey, who served in the Wessex Field Ambulance and was killed aged just 22 in 1917, said: 
“This year I have turned 50, and I wanted to mark it by facing my fears and raising money for our work with veterans. My father served in the Royal Navy and many of the family served”.

Andrew and his fellow jumpers clearly succeeded in facing their fears, as many now plan to be part of the D-Day jump on 6 June 2019.

Raising more funds for the charity which provides supported accommodation to British Armed Forces Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, the June skydive marks 75 years since the D-Day landings, where paratroopers were the first to land on French soil.

Andrew said: “The charity believes no Veteran should be forced to sleep on the streets. We provide dedicated support to Veterans across the South of England and Wales - specifically; Wiltshire, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Dorset as well as North and South Wales. On any given night our Homes for Veterans are able to keep over 129 Veterans off the streets.”
