The Sudans Day 2021

Our Salisbury-Sudans Link is well-regarded in the Church of England and the Anglican Communion and is very much a two-way relationship. This is reflected in the quality of guest speakers and of the presentations.

The Revd Ron Hart, organising his final Sudans Day, tells us:

“This year's Sudans day was held at St Francis Church, Salisbury, which proved to be an excellent venue. Almost 90 people attended, and we had a full programme including an address on the peace process from the South Sudanese Ambassador to the UK, Agnes Oswaha, and from Jane Backhurst, the Senior Advisor for South Sudan to Christian Aid.

“Ian Woodward set the scene with a skilful overview, and Robert Hayward updated us on projects in Sudan as well as South Sudan. Those of us who have flown with Mission Aviation Fellowship had memories evoked by the MAF presentation.

“The talks from our own speakers on Education and the Medical Link demonstrated the great amount of work going on behind the scenes, and a fascinating overview of the Deanery links showed just how much they are doing.

“We had presentations from the Poole link with Wau, the new Episcopal University, and the work of CRESS. The central importance of prayer and genuine partnership was reflected in these talks.

“A plenary session allowed for questions to our main speakers, and difficult issues like corruption and tribalism were raised and helpful answers given by the Ambassador and Jane.

“Although not a fundraising event, our small charge enabled us to more than cover our costs for the day.

“I organised the first Sudans Day in 2001, and the time has come for others to take on this work - it is good to be able to leave on such a good note, and I want to thank Sheila and Creddy and others who have been such a help over the past years.”
