Her Majesty writes foreword to book celebrating her Christian Faith

Her Majesty the Queen has written the foreword to a very special book being published to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Jointly produced by the Bible Society, HOPE and the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, The Servant Queen and the King She Serves focuses on the Queen’s Christian faith.  As Her Majesty has written the foreword to this very special book, it is not a profit-making, commercial product to be bought and sold, but a gift to give.

Beautifully illustrated, it uses the Queen’s own words to draw out the central role of her trust in Christ, offering an inspiring, multi-faceted insight into a life well-lived for others.

It is designed to be a gift from you and your church to people in your community.

Paul Woolley, Deputy Chief Executive at Bible Society, said, “In drawing attention to the central role of the Queen’s faith in her life and reign, The Servant Queen will be a unique 90th birthday publication. The book will inform, surprise, entertain and challenge, all at the same time.”

As well as her formal role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England, Her Majesty has long made clear the importance to her of her deep faith in Christ, not least in setting an example for how she should act as head of a Commonwealth of many faiths.

In her 2014 Christmas broadcast, for example, the Queen said, “For me, the life of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose birth we celebrate today, is an inspiration and an anchor in my life. A role-model of reconciliation and forgiveness, he stretched out his hands in love, acceptance and healing. Christ’s example has taught me to seek to respect and value all people of whatever faith or none.”

The Servant Queen and the King She Serves book costs only £1 plus postage and packing, and is available in packs of 10. Why not order some to leave in local community centres, doctor’s surgeries, cafés and the like? Order your copies here.

The Queen’s birthday will be celebrated officially with:
• four days of celebrations in Windsor 12-15 May;
• a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday 10 June;
• the traditional trooping the colour ceremony - the Queen’s birthday parade - on Saturday 11 June in Horse Guards Parade, and
• a massive street party for 10,000 people on The Mall on Sunday 12 June.

If your church is planning an event, why not take some photos and send them to comms@salisbury.anglican.org – we’ll be creating a photo album on Facebook to share celebration photos from around the Diocese.
