The Channel Islands join our Cycle of Prayer

by Michael Ford last modified 15 Dec, 2020 03:29 PM

As we move forward in the discernment process that we hope will see the Channel Islands becoming attached to the Diocese of Salisbury, we have begun to pray together and for each other.

From January, the Channel Islands’ parishes and their work will be included in our daily Cycle of Prayer.

While the proposed attachment to Salisbury still has to go before the Islands’ authorities for consideration and recommendation to the Privy Council, Bishop Nicholas has already welcomed the proposal saying:

“The Channel Islands coming into the Diocese will be a significant gift to us and to them as we grow together in the way of Jesus Christ.”

The Deans of Jersey and Guernsey welcomed the Islands’ inclusion in the Cycle of Prayer and said:

“As we move forward in the discernment process that we hope will see the Channel Islands becoming attached to the Diocese of Salisbury, we have begun to pray together and for each other.”

In November 2019 our Diocesan Synod unanimously welcomed the recommendation that the Channel Islands should be attached to the Diocese of Salisbury.

It followed the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Commission’s Report that concluded that, for a number of reasons - from ease of transport links to episcopal capacity for oversight - the Channel Islands would be strengthened in a new relationship with the Diocese of Salisbury.

The Cycle of Prayer is available as a PDF or Word document exclusively from this website, daily via the PrayerMate app to devices and email inboxes at 5.00am, and daily as a visual on Facebook at 7.00am.

Previous stories include 'a new relationship', 'unanimous welcome', '3 steps closer', 'closer still', and 'joining our Guild'.
