Thatcher loses his thatch!
Fundraising is not always a serious business. A well-known master thatcher and bellringer has recently completed a charity head-shave, and has raised way more money than his target of £250.
Braving chilly weather on Sunday 20th June, master thatcher and avid bellringer Richard 'Bones' Metters, from Marlborough, had his locks shaved off to raise money for a charity very close to his heart: the Llewellyn Edwards Bell Restoration Fund (LEBRF).
Anne Wardell, Administrator of the LEBRF says:
"Bones is well-known around Marlborough and the Pewsey Vale not only for thatching peoples' roofs, but also as tower captain of bellringers at St George's Church in Preshute, Marlborough having learnt to ring at St Mary's in the town over 30 years ago.
"Bones has been involved in several bell restoration projects over the years, many of these supported by vital funding from the LEBRF, and so he wants to give something back to the charity - raising money for the fund so that it can continue to keep bells ringing across the Salisbury Guild now and for future generations.
"The charity head-shave was live-streamed on video via Facebook, watched by scores of family, friends and well-wishers - and people can sponsor him via his JustGiving page.
"Just before submitting to the razor Bones was uncharacteristically quiet, but speaking afterwards he said “My head is so cold that I’ll definitely need to wear a hat now – it’s all worth it though!”
“Bones was an absolute superstar braving the shave, and so far he has raised over £2,000 and counting. Great work, Bones, and thank you!”
