Support for Chaplains

Bishop Karen is inviting chaplains who work in a part-time and voluntary capacity to join her at the inaugural hub meeting in Salisbury on October 9^th.

“Chaplains operate outside the traditional boundaries of the church,” she says.

“Importantly they bring the love of God into the lives of people in their workplaces, in schools and in their times of crisis, offering unconditional pastoral care. But chaplains themselves can feel isolated and unrecognised in their work. We want to show them that the Church values and appreciates this very unique ministry.”

Heather Andrew who is organising the hub explains, “This is an opportunity for chaplains from different disciplines in the immediate Salisbury area to get together to network and support each other. The hub will also act as a focal point for training on the key issues that affect chaplains.”

Bishop Karen, who supports the work of chaplains across the Diocese, is keen for those taking on chaplaincy roles to be encouraged by others, particularly by full-time chaplains.  It is hoped that hubs can be developed across the Diocese for part-time volunteer chaplains to learn together, share good practice and gain from the experience of those working in places like prisons, schools, hospitals, hospices and the armed forces.

The first Salisbury chaplaincy hub meeting will take place at Alabaré on 9 October from 11.30am - 2pm in the Wylye Room, Riverside House, 2 Watt Road, Salisbury SP2 7ED.
