Sundays at Signature House

by Michael Ford last modified 03 Jul, 2021 12:20 AM

A number of ministers in our Diocese double up, working part time and ministering part time.

Littlemoor’s Licensed Lay Minister (LLM) Tony King is no exception. He says:

“My part-time role as a Maintenance Officer enabled me to undertake a three-year Theology Ministry and Mission course, and I was licensed as an LLM in September 2020.

“When Coronavirus hit, it meant the local church was unable to visit the Nursing Home where I work, which would have left the people living here without spiritual nourishment in Christian faith.

“I have had the privilege to serve residents and staff by leading worship services for Christian festivals from Christmas 2020 onwards and one Sunday a month since then. What a wonderful way to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with both staff and residents!

“As people know, I am not only a Christian but an authorised Minister, which means I can be approached to answer questions, provide pastoral support and if requested pray with or for people.

“It is amazing to think that when the Government closed off the Nursing home to visitors, we might not be able to sustain people’s Christian Faith. I guess you could say that God has answered people’s prayers in placing me amongst the team here as I can only do this because I work here!

“It is wonderful to share the Peace of God which transcends all understanding with the Christians here and give others the opportunity to hear the Christian message.

“Being present as a listening ear and giving space for people to share the harder parts of life, is something as a Christian Minister very natural to me. Throughout the pandemic people have needed spiritual and emotional comfort, and even somebody to grieve with, both of which are a true privilege.

“Longer term, we look forward to introducing ministers from the local churches to augment what we already have on Sundays, and enable the celebration of Holy Communion once more, and weekday visitors which I know the residents certainly appreciated.

“Thank you to Amica Care Trust for my role maintaining the Nursing Home Facility in my day job, and also for encouraging us all by enabling care for the whole person and enriching the lives of all who call Signature House home.”
