Stand by for Aquadeacon!

by Michael Ford last modified 06 Mar, 2021 02:05 AM

Our intrepid Archdeacon of Wilts is in training for another epic charity swim.

The Ven Sue Groom says:

"I am swimming the Solent in September for Aspire because I want to help people with spinal injuries.

"In February 2019 I had a hip replacement and swam 100 miles in lakes and pools in fourteen weeks to raise more than £1,400 for Aspire by Christmas. In September 2020 I swam 6.5km along the River Arun and raised a further £1,280. The coronavirus pandemic made training challenging but I got there in the end! Thank you very much to all my loyal supporters for your generosity over the last few years.

"This year, once Lake 86 and swimming pools open in April, I hope that I will be able to train more consistently to swim across the Solent. This will be the first time I have undertaken a sea swim of any distance. I will need to be able to swim up to 3 miles in less than two and quarter hours, in currents and potentially choppy waters!

"I'm beginning to plan my training. 1:1 coaching with Jason Tait of South West Swim booked for 15th April; talking nicely to my wonderful husband about resurrecting the garden pool for acclimatisation in preparation for Lake 86 opening at the end of this month; booked into the Henley Swim Festival again in July... can't wait to get back into the water!

"To cheer me on and to support Aspire, please sponsor me."
