St George's Oakdale celebrates Jubilee with generosity and fellowship
St George's Oakdale have used the Jubilee as a way to not only bring people together, but also to reach those who may otherwise been isolated. The Revd Penny Draper, Vicar at the Parish of St George's Oakdale, shares:
On Sunday 22 May over 60 elderly and isolated folk from across Poole came to St. George's, Oakdale for a Jubilee Afternoon Tea. They enjoyed party sandwiches, finger foods, cakes, strawberries, jelly and ice-cream, as well as a great sing-a-long, much flag waving and the National Anthem.
On Sunday 29 May, St. George's Church, Oakdale, met to worship in the hall for a Jubilee Street Party-style Service. We enjoyed some wonderful hymns and worship songs, including the Queen's favourite, 'Praise my soul the King of heaven'; had discussions about the changes seen since 1952 and what it must be like to be the Queen, and then prayed for our Monarch, giving thanks for her faithful service, and asking God to continue to strengthen and support her. We made our own flags, enjoyed a hat and crowns parade, and gave three cheers to the Queen. Our service concluded with the National Anthem before refreshments and cakes were served.
