Space to reflect

Bishop Andrew has blessed the space, accompanied by the Revd Jenny Taylor, and officially opened it for use. 

Intended as a space for children and adults to have quiet time, the garden includes a water feature where prayer pebbles can be placed, decorated stones created by the pupils, and eight mosaic boards which represent the four seasons, the school crest and the school’s values: care, commitment, creativity, bravery, brilliance, belief. 

Kirsten Webster, the Project coordinator, said: 

“One of the key objectives of this project was to grow the relationship of the school in the local community. Children and families involved in this project now spans eight years, each providing some personal touch in a way of painted pebbles, painted or tiled mosaics and planting. We are extremely blessed. 

"This Community Garden would not have been possible without the funding from the Chalke Valley Churches, Wylye Valley Art’s Society, Wiltshire CEP Arts grant, Dunelm, donations from ‘this is eco’, Topps Tiles and local tradesmen.”

Coombe Bissett Primary school also thanked staff for their commitment to the project, particularly Naomi Bowers (Arts Leader) and Nikki Forster. 

The garden followed stage 1 of the school’s wellbeing project which was the building of the Cedar Room, assisted by the £10,000 grant from the Ministry of Defence and contributions from local businesses. The final flourish of the project was the development of an extended all-weather play area, allowing year-round access and enabling outdoor education.
