The organisers of Sleepsafe in Dorset have thanked the churches and volunteers who helped provide temporary accommodation for the county's rough sleepers.

In a post on Facebook, the supported bed project run by local churches in partnership thanked everyone for "yet another amazing year," and that they had literally saved lives.

"People have been moved into permanent, supported accommodation and are now beginning new chapters in their lives. All were able to gain access to healthcare through our GP service and the Homeless Health Service.

"The team has been working tirelessly to accommodate all of our remaining Sleepsafe guests. Due to an amazing landlord we have been working with and Dorset Council we were able to place 8 guests into his accommodation. The rooms are amazing!"

They said that despite the recent guidance concerning social isolation, they were still able to work remotely:

"All customers have been provided with phones so we can stay in touch. Food parcels provided and there will be daily support ongoing where necessary.

"We may be working remotely but we will continue to operate all of the services possible including our rent deposit scheme and housing advice."

The project is offering a safe place to sleep in a coronavirus-symptom-free zone, with access to a separate isolation unit if it is needed.
