Matt and Nigel cut their joint cake

The Revd Nick Wells and the Revd Sharon Boyle were two of fourteen Deacons who were ordained Priests by the Bishop in our Cathedral just a week before he retires after ten years as the Bishop of Salisbury.

The Revd Nick Wells presided for the first time at the Parish Eucharist in Wimborne Minster on Sunday 27th June.

His wife, the Revd Ruth Wells who was ordained a Priest three years ago in Salisbury Cathedral, preached the sermon. Ruth is the Senior Chaplain at the Bournemouth University and the Arts University Bournemouth.

The Revd Sharon Boyle, who primarily serves in the Village Churches, presided for the first time at the morning service in Chalbury Church, again on 27th June.

Settling in- Corfe Mullen's new curate Matt Smith

Meanwhile, in Corfe Mullen, the Revd Revd Jane Burgess says:

"There was the most wonderful sense of celebration at St Nicholas Corfe Mullen on Sunday as we not only celebrated our curate Matt Smith being ordained priest at Salisbury Cathedral the day before but also celebrated the anniversary of when Nigel LLoyd was ordained deacon 40 years ago.

"Matt presided at communion for the first time and Nigel shared some fascinating memories of ministry over the 40 years as well as preaching where he pointed us all to the foot of the cross, where the journey begins for us all.

"The planned celebratory BBQ was cancelled due to the ongoing restrictions in favour of a seated celebratory brunch, with giant baps filled with bacon and sausages, and of course plenty of ketchup.

"The celebration dog-collared cake was made by our churchwarden Rachel Stevens and inscribed with 'Matt 1 day and Nigel 40 years'. In spite of Covid restrictions, it was the nearest most of us have had to a party in a long time!"
