School Raises Money for Sudan

Mr Ian Pinder, from the Diocese of Salisbury, visited our School to receive a cheque for money which we had raised in our Key Stage FAFEs (Friday Afternoon Fund-raising Events).
The money will go towards providing clean water supply at Joba Primary School in Joba, Sudan. Mr Pinder showed the children slides of Joba, the capital city of the southern part of Sudan, and explained that very few buildings have a clean water supply, despite it being a capital city. The water supply was quoted at £600: the money we have raised will go a long way towards achieving that goal.
Key Stage 2 held their Friday Afternoon Fundraising Events in the autumn term, and Key Stage 1 held their FAFE this term. The children enjoyed the events, taking part in guessing games, apple bobbing, finding the water games and a whole host of other stalls. The wonderful cake stall was much enhanced by a very kind donation of cakes and croissants from Hayden's Bakery. Thank you to the bakery, to everyone who donated items and for all those who spent money at the FAFEs.
The school created the link with Joba both through Ian Pinder and through Mr and Mrs Tew, parents of a school pupil. The family had recently visited Sudan, and showed the children pictures of their visit. Last summer the Tews took bookmarks - made by Urchfont pupils - out to Sudan.
