Sarum Lights

Over 6,000 tickets have been sold for Sarum Lights, a series of light and sound installations created for Salisbury Cathedral by artistic collaboration Luxmuralis. The event has not yet sold out, but tickets are going fast.

The Sarum Lights were commissioned by the Cathedral to mark the anniversary of the Cathedral’s founding and will launch Salisbury 2020 City on the move, a year-long celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Cathedral’s move from Old Sarum and the development of the city itself.

For 5 nights, from Tuesday 18 February – Saturday 22 February, the Cathedral’s towering West Front will be transformed by large-scale projections exploring the story of the Cathedral since its foundation in 1220.

Inside, the history of the Cathedral up to the present day will be explored, allowing visitors to 'walk through time'. The light installations are accompanied by specially commissioned music, creating a walking journey through the Cathedral spaces that re-imagines the life and work of the people of Salisbury who shaped the place we know and love today.

Luxmuralis’ artistic director Peter Walker said:

“Inevitably working on something of this scale is exciting, particularly as you approach launch day, but it is also a challenge to work with a ‘canvas’ like this remarkable Cathedral. Our installations will explore its rich legacy from the 13th century to the present day, and the process of researching the history of what has been undertaken and achieved here is humbling. A testament to humankind’s innate creativity and vision.”

£5 adults, £4 child (U/16), £16 family (2 adults / 2 children). Children under 3 go free and do not require a ticket (the event is pushchair friendly). On the day/walk up: £8 no concessions (subject to availability)
