Salisbury's Hustings
Bishop Nicholas said it was a "privilege" to chair the General Election Hustings organised by Churches Together in Salisbury.
The climate emergency, the question of trust in politicians, Brexit and the future of Salisbury were the main topics discussed at the hustings at St Thomas's Church in the city.
Chaired by Bishop Nicholas, the panel consisted of candidates for the Salisbury seat - Victoria Charleston (Liberal Democrat), Tom Corbin (Labour), John Glen (Conservative), Rick Page (Green Party) and King Arthur Pendragon (Independent).
With nearly 400 people in attendance, Bishop Nicholas commented: "Who says the age of big public meetings is over?"
The Bishop said:
"Over 70 questions were submitted. About a third of them were on Brexit, the character of our politicians, the importance of truth and the casual way in which lies have been told."
"Each of the candidates spoke well. Strong views were expressed with courtesy and respect. May I thank everyone who attended, but especially thank the candidates who were a credit to Salisbury."
