Salisbury is the best
Salisbury has been named the best place to live in the UK by an expert panel.
The panel assembled by The Sunday Times for its prestigious annual Best Places to Live list made Salisbury its "overall winner" partly because of the community spirit displayed in the wake of the attacks last year.
Helen Davies, The Sunday Times Home editor, said: “There are still parts of the city where the clean-up continues, but to bounce back and be even stronger is a sure sign of a very special community, which is one of the reasons we have chosen Salisbury as the best place to live in Britain in 2019.
Bishop Nicholas, speaking to BBC Radio Solent said
“It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for Salisbury.
"In 2015 Lonely Planet said it was the 7th top visitor attraction in the world because of the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.
"Then the poisoning of the Skripals last year and the death of Dawn Sturgess meant visitor numbers fell dramatically.
"It was a terrible time but Salisbury is resilient.
"The emergency services and the hospital, the military and the Council all played their part outstandingly well as did the people of this city.
"The Sunday Times is right: Salisbury is a very good place to live. The recovery is well under way. Perhaps more important now is the chance to rethink what sort of a city Salisbury is.
"Next year is the 800th anniversary of the founding of the cathedral. It is a beacon of hope in this community and beyond."
