The Cross brings New Lives for the Homeless

A rustic cross has been made by ‘Doorstop’, an outreach project based in St John's Church, Bournemouth and is available for use in services at Heatherview Crematorium. 

This wood-work shop exists to offer the local community an opportunity to purchase newly crafted wooden items made by trainees. 

Trainees are ex-homeless, or those vulnerably housed, who are trying to get back on their feet and all the profits go into helping ex-homeless start a new life.

One of the former rough sleepers said: “I love being down at the workshop – it gives me purpose in my day.

“I can now see a way forward that will not only help me put these new carpentry skills into practice, but also get some help in other areas of my life, like helping me to organise some driving lessons. That way I really believe I can restart my relationship with my son, and leave my old way of life on the street behind.”
