'Room to Grow' is growing out of the ground

by Michael Ford last modified 03 Jul, 2019 04:35 PM

The first brick has been laid at the new Worship Centre and Community Hub for Creekmoor as work started on the £1.26m major extension project at Christ Church Creekmoor.

The Revd Janice Audibert laid the first brick that signified that the building, which will double the floor space to provide additional community as well as church facilities in the new Community Hub, was rising from the ground.

In the previous weeks, part of the existing Church was demolished, foundations prepared, and concrete was poured in.

The Revd Janice Audibert said:

"The builders came on site in April and we hope to be back in by Christmas. During that time the Sunday morning services and the majority of the Community activities have moved to the nearby Community Centre and Social Club.

"We are really grateful for the support shown by the Community Centre, wider community, local businesses and those further afield and look forward to the additional Church and Community provision that will be available. Over recent weeks the Church and the Creekmoor Community have been watching part of the existing building come down and have been eagerly awaiting the start of the building work."

The church and community have raised over £1m towards the ‘Room to Grow’ project which will provide an improved Worship Centre and much-needed Community Hub to serve Creekmoor and beyond.

Laying the first brick, Christ Church Minister Revd Janice Audibert said "We believe that God gave us the vision many years ago to extend our building to provide a better space to reach out to the community. We are really excited that this building work is finally starting.

"The Community Hub based at the church will provide further children, family and youth activities, a daily Community Café with Dementia support and enable new community projects such as Creekmoor dementia-friendly activities for the whole community to help address loneliness and isolation in the surrounding area."

The Church is stepping out in faith to start the building work but more funds are still needed to finish and equip the building. To find out more and to discover how to get involved, please visit www.christchurchcreekmoor.org, or contact the Revd Janice Audibert on 01202 389751 or .
