Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk

On the first Friday in March, Christians of all denominations will gather together in a local place of worship or school to take part in a service created in the Zimbabwean tradition.

The Women's World Day of Prayer services are designed to give a flavour of worship in the country featured, and highlight the history, geography and present-day issues faced by the people there.

This year's date is March 6th and services in our area include:

The Wilton Branch of the Mother's Union joining with the Wilton Baptist Church for a joint Service and celebration.

Churches Together in Shaftesbury holding a day time service at the United Church and then an evening service at the Quaker Meeting House.

The origins of World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th century when Christian women in the USA and Canada initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of women’s involvement in mission, at home and abroad. It is from such roots as these that WDP has taken its present shape – a worldwide ecumenical movement of Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action.
