Replacement organ strikes the right note
With the generous support of a number of grant giving bodies and a local benefactor, one of our Dorset churches has been able to install a replacement organ.
St Mary’s Church Winterborne Stickland is now the proud owner of a new organ built by Alexander Buckingham in 1824, at which time he was one of the main organ builders in England.
This historic instrument was ‘rediscovered’ when in need of a major overhaul in 1991 and, apart from some superficial alterations, appears to have survived more or less as it was originally built.
An inaugural recital on the new organ will take place on Sunday 26 January at 3pm.
