Remembrance Sunday this Weekend

Parades and services with the laying of wreaths at war memorials will be taking place all over our Diocese.

All events will be carried out with the necessary Covid precautions in place. 

The Act of Remembrance was inaugurated in 1919 by King George V to honour those who laid down their lives in the service of their country in the first world war and included a two-minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  

It has since expanded to include Remembrance Sunday and those remembered now included military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. 

This year the Royal British Legion marks 100 years since the nations collective Remembrance traditions were first brought together and says over 4,000 volunteers will be selling poppies in the weeks leading up to the two events.
