"Reducing, Reusing and Recycling"

Holy Trinity Church in Dilton Marsh helps us explore how to be more eco-friendly this Christmas:  

"Tons of boxes, paper, gift bags, food, and unwanted gifts all go to waste over the holiday season.  

Pete Seeger, folk singer and social activist, once said:  

“If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled, or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production.”  

As we all aim for net zero, our love of buying at Christmas is the stuff of nightmares, so, how can you do your bit? 

REDUCE:  

Are you fed up with filling your bin with packaging? Consider shopping at a pop-up eco shop! Unfortunately, there isn’t one in Westbury…yet! But here’s some local ones to Dilton Marsh for you to pop down too: 

• The Eco Kiosk, Corn Market, Warminster  

• The Little Eco Shop, Couch Lane, Wharfside 

• Denude, 4 Bath Street, Frome 

Did you know that eco-shopping can really save you money? In these shops you can either fill your own container, recyclable bags or jars, so you only buy what you need.  

What you might find in these shops 

• Environmentally friendly cleaning materials 
• Personal care items 
• Loose frozen foods and fresh vegetables 

REUSE 

What do you do when you have an item you no longer want, but is too good to put in the bin? Instead of stashing away in a forgotten cupboard, donate it to a local charity shop!  

RECYCLE 

If you have old IT equipment, you can donate it to Priority IT on the Hawk Ridge Business Park. They refurbish old laptops and give them to children and young people who need them for school. 

New glasses? Your old ones can be taken to Haines and Smith opticians who are a collecting point for the Lions Club, they will be sent overseas for sight charities. And if you are replacing your hearing aids, Haines and Smith will also take the old ones off your hands. 

There’s a place for everything. Will you do your bit for the environment?”
