Anna is an avid competition entrant and she was delighted to win this special prize:

"Everyone who knows me understands why I love to enter competitions. So I was over the moon to win two tickets to see Dan Snow’s history show in the Valley News Facebook competition.

"On the night, we rushed to the City Hall, and the ladies at the box office were very welcoming and smiley. They gave me the winning tickets. We were taken to our seats by an usher. They were great seats towards the front. Dan arrived looking rather dishy. If I’m completely honest, I’m not a major history buff.

"Evening with ‘The History Guy’ was a mixture of anecdotes, stories and videos on the subjects that Dan had investigated, and some from his TV programmes. He had interviewed war heroes, and it was touching to hear their stories and Dan’s connection with them. He talked about the civil war, the Royal Navy and the British Empire and a fascinating insight into the much troubled but stunningly beautiful Democratic Republic of Congo.

"He then did a talk on interesting history facts about Salisbury. At the end we bought Dan’s book, 'On This Day In History', which brings to life a key event in history for each day of the year. It also included a pass to visit his history channel.

"I cannot recommend his show enough. Dan is so passionate about history and his talk was inspiring."
