PrayAdvent 2020 follows on from PrayOctober

by Michael Ford last modified 06 Nov, 2020 11:27 PM

In times of change and with a second lockdown in progress, many of us are turning to prayer as never before, and some parishes are producing their own resources alongside those from the National Church.

In Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP), plans are afoot for co-ordinated daily prayer at 7.00pm during Advent, and a prayer card has been sent out as a preview.

This follows on from the "amazing" response from the parishes during last month's PrayOctober initiative.

Rural Dean for Poole and North Bournemouth Lucy Holt says:

"PrayOctober was a simple way that churches across the BCP conurbation joined together in Prayer for an end to Covid-19. It was great to see churches geographically from Mudeford to Lytchett Matravers join in coming from an amazing array of different traditions, denominations and Church communities.

"By offering a simple prayer resource, each church could make it work in the right way for them, from using it as part of a eucharistic pattern to 24/7 prayer times. The whole month was covered in prayer which finished on 31st with several amazing Zoom prayer sessions with a mix of people and a powerful sense of God's presence.

"Having chatted with other leaders across the conurbation, it was felt that Advent was a time to continue to pray together but in a slightly different way. Hence PrayAdvent has been born, with churches and communities encouraged to pray a simple prayer together at the same time during the Advent period.

"I have produced a card format that is easy to get produced and am offering it as a resource for the season. If anyone else from the Diocese wants to be involved, we are not precious that this should just be for BCP - lets PrayAdvent and see what God might do in us and through us!"
