Pop-up Youth Church is on the road

by Michael Ford last modified 05 Mar, 2019 04:18 PM

Exciting plans are afoot for reaching out to young people in the rural north of the Diocese, and those plans have wheels.

Steve Dewar, an LPA of Wellsprings Benefice, who works for Wiltshire Youth for Christ as Team Leader and Rural Youth Worker, is to take his pop-up youth project on the road.

The project in rural Wiltshire ran over the summer, but Steve now plans to make it mobile. He says:
"I am currently purchasing a van and transferring it from Swindon to our more rural area. I am working with local churches of various denominations, Wiltshire Council and police to do something that has not been done in our area before."

With a passion to reach young people and support local community, the plan is to develop the Fiat Ducato Van into a mobile Youth and Community Resource.

Steve is encouraging churches to work ecumenically and communities to support and engage with young people in their local towns and villages with activities and events through the year.

"We have a heart to do this to glorify and unite the Christian family and work together in pooling our resources, talents, skills and gifts towards loving our neighbours as ourselves."

The outreach and detached project is being positively encouraged by the Police and Crime Commissioner and Local Council and Steve is keen for others to come on board:
"My heart is that the Church is at the forefront of this project, and to show that the rural areas and towns on the fringes of the Diocese are not forgotten, and in unity we can partner in ministry and outreach."
