Petals for Peace

by Michael Ford last modified 01 May, 2020 06:33 PM

Communities are being called upon to decorate windows with displays of petals to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day while helping the homeless who are struggling during the present crisis.

Alabaré, the Christian charity that supports the homeless and vulnerable is looking to bring communities together through the coronavirus outbreak by encouraging craft-minded individuals to create displays of ‘Petals for Peace’.

Made up from paper templates, the completed petals will then form picturesque displays designed to bring people together at this difficult time whilst remembering 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the War in Europe.

Petals for Peace- work in progress

With stay at home street parties expected across the nation, Alabaré are calling on people to decorate their front windows with displays of Petals for Peace, and share photographs of their displays online using the hashtag #PetalsForPeace during the run-up to VE 75 Day (8-10th May).

All funds raised from Petals for Peace will go to Alabaré’s Emergency Appeal, supporting homeless and vulnerable people who are particularly vulnerable to coronavirus.

Alabaré patron, General The Lord Dannatt GCB, CBE, MC, DL said:

“The 75th anniversary of VE Day marks an important moment as we commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe. We feel that it is necessary to mark this momentous occasion with a celebration that not only reflects on those who sacrificed so much then but also helps to support Veterans in need now.”
