Pealing for Peace- A Correction

by Michael Ford last modified 13 Feb, 2017 01:31 PM

Westwood bells rang out- but not a full peal, and not just for Syria. Letter printed below, with apologies for the original errors.

Westwood bells did indeed ring out half-muffled on November 11th for half an hour. It was in no way a full peal (which would have taken over two hours) and the ringing was not specifically for Syria, but for all victims of war in all places from all ages.

The ringers were asked if they could ring for Syria, but their unanimous decision was that it was not right to focus just on one area, no matter how terrible matters are there. This decision was accepted by the Rector of the benefice.

Anne Willis,
On behalf of the ringers of St Mary Westwood
