Our Response

by Michael Ford last modified 12 Oct, 2021 09:37 PM

Our Diocesan Generous Giving campaign is in its final stages and, after focusing on Thanksgiving, Week Four - starting on Sunday 3rd October - sees us focus on Our Response as we give thanks for all we have received ourselves and for all the generosity that has come before which has made our churches what they are today.

As the campaign draws to an end, we think and consider how we are going to respond in our own lives, through our own giving. We will be invited to complete a pledge form with how we have decided to respond.

We may be invited to use this in our services or for personal prayer.

The suggested Bible readings for this week are:
2 Chronicles chapter 9, verses 6-15
Mark chapter 12, verses 38-44

You might also like to use these intercessionary prayers:

Father God we pray for our nation. In our awareness that all is not right, let us not forget to give you thanks and praise for the blessings we know and often take for granted: our freedom to speak, education, health and relative prosperity. For ourselves, our local leaders and the leaders of our nation we pray for a spirit of thankfulness, integrity and justice.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, we live in a world where millions are hungry, denied basic human rights and crippled by war, corruption and the burden of international debt. As we know your generosity to us, give us generosity of heart, courage to believe, passion for justice and strength to act. We pray for increased efforts and greater influence by Britain in tackling injustice in the world.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Holy Spirit, grant that we might be generous in meeting the needs of others, through our caring, the gift of our time, the wisdom of our words and our quiet listening and in practical ways; for in this way we give glory to you. We pray for those known to us who are suffering in mind, body or spirit at this time.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord God, you have revealed yourself as the source of all goodness and grace. Grant us grateful and generous hearts in all things. Especially we pray that you will open our hearts and minds to recognise the gifts that the poor, the sorrowing, the frail can bring to us as they pray for us, bless us and challenge us.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

The campaign is supported by a range of adaptable resources, everything from video sermons from our Bishops to a special leaflet available in your churches that is packed with a host of practical ideas to help to engage you at a personal level.

Together as a Diocese, we are committed to supporting each other in our churches as we bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the communities we serve. Resourcing stewardship and giving was endorsed by the October 2020 Diocesan Synod as part of our response to the budget.

So this autumn we are resourcing a Diocesan-wide Generous Giving Campaign with an open invitation to our parishes to take part if they are able.

The resources are flexible and the campaign remains open for parishes to join at any time over the next six months.
