Open your eyes to Deaf Culture

by ajack last modified 15 Dec, 2021 05:34 PM

It’s estimated that over 11 million people in the UK are deaf or hard of hearing. Ask yourself this, how accessible is my church to those in this community?

Neil Robinson, the Diocese Chaplain to the Deaf Community recommends ‘Heart Language: Let’s Communicate Like Jesus and Change the World!’, a book, written by Hearing Pastor, Randy.

This book is said to open your eyes and start you on your journey to understanding Deaf Culture.

Randy is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and works a lot with the deaf community. He is a fluent ASL (American Sign Language) user because he grew up communicating with his deaf parents and he naturally assimilated the Deaf culture. But he made the most of the two worlds – hearing and Deaf worlds.

In this book, Randy explained what Heart-Language really means for us. He also stressed that it is important for us to show people the way to know Jesus personally through our everyday experience in our walk with Jesus. This book does not just tell us to use one culture to communicate, but the author encourages us to use our common sense about what Jesus would do with people from different cultural-linguistic backgrounds.

It will also explain the challenges, the hurts, or the blessings of this ubiquitous culture.

You can buy ‘Heart Language: Let’s Communicate Like Jesus and Change the World!’ at any major book retailer.
