One month to crowdfund for new Homeless centre
A Dorset homeless charity has been given a short window of opportunity to crowdfund the money needed to refurbish their new centre in Poole.
Routes to Roots purchased a former Baptist Church in the town where they held their first drop-ins.
While they own the building outright - paid for with a combination of their own funds, an interest-free loan from Talbot Village Trust repayable only in the event of selling, and a grant from Help the Homeless - they need money to carry out a substantial refurbishment.
This refurbishment will include a new heating system, insulation, kitchen, showers, laundry room and office space.
The charity hopes to raise £10,000 towards the refurbishment of their Hill Street building which can give homeless and vulnerably housed people a centre where they can access all the help they need to make lasting changes to their lives.
To raise the funds they are using Aviva Community Fund’s crowdfunding platform, but the window is short. The fund is open for donations for just one month.
Jude Brooks, UK Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Aviva, said:
“We know that even the smallest charities can have a massive impact in building stronger communities. We are extremely proud to support Routes to Roots and look forward to enabling them to bring their idea to life.”
Routes to Roots say that in the short-term they will maintain their existing level of support and outreach services, but looking further ahead, as funding and volunteer support permit, they would like to be open 7 days a week and increase the outreach services offered to include financial advice, training and other opportunities to help our clients move back into the community.
